Baker Place Road Closure Update
Columbia County, in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Transportation, wishes to inform the driving public of an update concerning the unscheduled road closure for all thru traffic on Baker Place Road. The road closure will prevent any thru traffic from heading any further north or south along Baker Place Road, at the bridge over Interstate 20. Local traffic may still access Baker Place Road, from either end, but will not be able to continue past the overpass.
COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA – Columbia County, in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Transportation, wishes to inform the driving public of an update concerning the unscheduled road closure for all thru traffic on Baker Place Road. The road closure will prevent any thru traffic from heading any further north or south along Baker Place Road, at the bridge over Interstate 20. Local traffic may still access Baker Place Road, from either end, but will not be able to continue past the overpass. Thru traffic will need to use the following detour routes.
The road closure is to allow for unscheduled repair work on the bridge and adjacent roadway where Baker Place Road crosses over Interstate 20. An evaluation of the current situation and a plan of action has been formulated. The closure will remain in place for the remainder of this week. The repair work is scheduled to begin Monday, June 29, 2009 and will take two to three days to complete. Therefore, the road closure at the bridge over Interstate 20 will continue until at least Thursday, July 2, 2009.
Northbound traffic will need to continue east on State Route 223 (Wrightsboro Road) until its intersection with Chamblin Road. Then turn left onto Chamblin Road and continue north until its intersection with International Parkway at Chamblin Road, then turn left onto Chamblin Road and continue north until intersecting with Baker Place Road, on the left.
Southbound traffic will need to continue south on Chamblin Road until its intersection with International Parkway. Then turn right onto Chamblin Road and continue south until its intersection with State Route 223 (Wrightsboro Road). Then turn right onto SR 223 and continue west until intersecting with Baker Place Road, on the right.
Please plan to take an alternate route and/or allow additional time for commuting on these days.
