Augusta, GA—There’s more trouble for plans to build a trade center in downtown Augusta.

The arrest of a local attorney, David Fry, on charges of trying to bribe two Augusta Commissioners to switch their votes in favor of the TEE Center could end with the project in ruin.

One of those at the center of the scandal is Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Mason, and he says in light of what’s happened, he cannot support the center.

Alvin Mason, Augusta Mayor Pro Tem: “I wasn’t in favor of the TEE Center the way it had materialized, in any way shape or form, and certainly now it becomes increasingly difficult to vote on it and if it ever comes up again, I will probably abstain so my personal position doesn’t get in the way.“

If the TEE Center dies, it could also kill a new Hyatt Hotel in downtown Augusta, because the hotel can’t get a loan unless the TEE Center is approved.
