After a morning shooting in the Summerville, Augusta area…investigators are looking into another one. This one came after an armed robbery outside a bar…college kids, home for the summer and held up at gunpoint. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.
Augusta, GA—Victim #1: “We couldn’t get the car started, it was like a panic of, well, they have our stuff, they’re just going to shoot us.“
It was a scary night for two victims, who didn’t want to reveal their identity, since their attackers still haven’t been charged. Both of them, and a third person, were held at gunpoint and robbed early Thursday night, as they were walking down the road to their car after leaving Helga’s, on Central Avenue.
Victim #2: “About right here, I noticed the two guys walking across the street, and walking up into the alley up here.”
That’s when they say the gunmen held them up and robbed them, before they took off. David Greenfield has owned Helga’s Pub and Grille for 3 years…and in those 3 years, he says he’s never seen anything like this.
David Greenfield, owner, Helga’s Pub & Grille: “It’s rare that we have any drama here at Helga’s, and to have something like this happen, that’s just disappointing to say the least.”
And scary…so Greenfield told us it was time for a change.
Greenfield: “We want security for the customers and the employees…it’s as simple as that. We intend to have Richmond County down here 6 nights a week…we’re open 6 nights a week.”
Victim #2: “I wasn’t planning on ever coming here, again, until they got security down here.”
While the security will hopefully help to make things safer at Helga’s…the night that started it all…is one these two say they’ll never forget.
Victim #1: “You think…it can’t happen to me. The fact that they came out and there were so many people around, I mean, it felt safe. But, it’s kind of the realization that you’re not always as safe as you think you are.”
Greenfield says the deputy will be starting shortly. Investigators have taken fingerprints and are looking at surveillance video from an ATM where one of the victimss stolen card was used. But, at this point, no one has been charged.
