According to Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen, one person died in the crash on Mike Padgett Highway, Wednesday evening, at Country Place Drive.
James M. Young III, 18, of the 4100 block of Mike Padgett Highway, died Wednesday night at MCG.
According to Bowen, Young was northbound on Mike Padgett Highway, in the left through lane driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. Young swerved to the right to keep from striking a vehicle, which was northbound in the left through lane, attempting to turn left into Country Place Drive. Young’s vehicle went into the right lane, which Young overcorrected and the vehicle spun out of control crossing the southbound lanes.
Young’s vehicle was struck by a southbound vehicle and then went into the ditch and turned over landing on its roof.
Young was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia. He died from injuries he sustained in the accident. The cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.

How many more people are going to die on that stretch of Mike Padgett before they widen the road to include a turning lane? They had a sign up for a while about widening the road, but instead, they just paved over the old road. There is a daycare on that same stretch and I have seen some bad wrecks from people waiting to turn into the daycare getting hit from behind. Everytime I see it, my heart drops thinking of the baby or child in the back seat.
