2nd Annual Westobou Festival Begins

Augusta. GA—Tim Robertson, President, Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County: “All of this excitement is very catching, and I hope, over the next 10 days, you will catch the excitement, too.

It is the official kickoff to the CSRA’s greatest arts event…the Westobou Festival.

Cameron Nixon, Vice-Chair Westobou Festival: “We have so much to showcase here and it gets lost sometimes in the Masters and everything else we do here. We’ve got a thriving arts community and this is a way to showcase, not just local artists, but let our arts patrons in Augusta enjoy national and regional acts, as well.“

More than 80,000 people are expected to be in the CSRA, throughout the 10 days, exploring the more than 200 events. One of those…the ever popular Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival, where folks were gearing up for the big 3-day weekend.

Brenda Durant, Executive Director, Arts In The Heart of Augusta:  “In the global village, of the food is prepared by our local ethnic communities. so you can basically take a culinary trip around the world right here in the augusta common.“

But it’s not just the food that gets people excited…all weekend the stage will be filled with a huge variety of ethnic dancers…like an irish one who we caught up with. 

Sydney Smith, Irish dancer:  “It’s more about having enthusiasm and smiling and the whole costume, makeup and wig and dress.“

For folks all across the southeast, the next 10 days will be an experience for everyone…and maybe even a new place to unwind.
