Augusta, GA—State Representative Hardie Davis spoke only to WJBF News Channel 6 Thursday morning and confirmed that he will be running for former State Senator Ed Tarver’s seat.

This means that Augusta will need to have at least two special elections, because Davis will have to vacate his current House seat to run for Tarver’s job.

Davis says he’s ready for the challenge.

Elections Director Lynn Bailey says this special election could be sometime in January and, even if the elections are held on the same day, it will cost Richmond County taxpayers nearly $70,000 to open the polls.

Your story indicates this is news.  But, didn’t Rep. Davis made the formal announcement he was going to run for Senator Tarver’s seat on November 8, 2009 to Chris Thomas, WRDW Channel 12?
