UPDATED: Tree Crushes House; One Person taken to MCG
Ronnie Anderson’s mobile home is sliced in two by an oak tree.
Gibson GA -
Ronnie Anderson
“ We were sitting here watching tv and heard a small limb hit the trailer and then next thing we know the whole roof came falling in.“
This 125-year-old oak tree in Ronnie Anderson’s back yard was no match for Wednesdays wind gusts, some approaching 50 miles per hour.
The tree came crashing down on the mobile home, slicing it in half and trapping Anderson’s family under it.
Ronnie Anderson
“I was ok I knew I hadn’t got hurt but I could see the metal and the limbs laying across the top of them and all I could see was her legs.”
Anderson’s phone didn’t work, so he had to leave his family and run to the sheriff’s office, more than a block away.
Ronnie Anderson
“I came running in the sheriffs office and they came running out just as fast as I went in and we were here in 30 seconds.”
Glascock county deputy Lamar Baxley was one of the first on the scene.
Lamar Baxley
“Usually you get them on the phone or on the radio. Its kinda strange when they just run into the office.“
Within twenty minuets rescue workers removed the limbs that trapped a woman and a young boy. The 3-year old boy was fine but the woman had several broken bones and was taken to MCG.
Ronnie Anderson
“ You can see the main body of the tree right back there. It fell feet from where they were sitting.“
Anderson’s house was destroyed but he says that’s a small price to pay knowing his loved ones will be ok.
Ronnie Anderson
“ Oh my god, yes. To have that baby in my arms again but he never dropped his pop sickle. He never dropped his pop sickle he was eating.“
