It’s some of the best news we’ve heard about jobs, in a while. Thanks to federal stimulus money, thousands of jobs have opened up at SRS…and the best part…you still have time to get one. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.
New Ellenton, SC—Astrid Stuard and her husband David have owned ACTS Incorporated since 1995. They’re a staffing company primarily for government entities like SRS. So, you can bet they were happy when they heard $1.6 billion was going to SRS to create 3,000 jobs.
David Stuard, Sr. Vice President, ACTS Incorporated: “There are going to be a hundred different types of positions out there. This is a once in a lifetime…who would have even known that a year ago the stimulus would even exist?”
And now that it does…it’s only going to benefit you. ACTS Incorporated, out of Aiken County, is hiring for more skilled jobs, like engineers and techs. Career Personnel is looking for someone who can work in the mail room, or be a secretary. Sheila Smith helps interview the overwhelming amount of candidates they’ve been seeing.
Sheila Thomas, Manager, Technical Division, Career Personnel: “Oh gosh, in an average day a few years ago, you might talk to 50 folks, 50 or 60 a day, and now you can talk to as many as 150, if you can find time in the day to do that.”
So how do you get one of these hot jobs?
Stuard: ”First thing they do is make sure they come here, or Career Personnel, with a resume. Make the resume as lengthy as possible. Don’t just tell us you were a cashier, tell us what you did as a cashier. All of those things will help us separate you from everyone else. Go on our website. All of the jobs that we have are listed on the website.”
These openings are more than just a chance to better SRS and the community; it gives hope to those who have lost it.
Stuard: “There’s more than hope, there’s a great opportunity. Those who push hard, who do it right, who apply correctly have got a great chance of getting a job.”
These jobs will only last for 30 months…then it’s up to SRS if they want to keep you. For more information head to ACTSIncorporated.com.” or call them at (803) 652-8600.

Regarding your web story of June 2 on the 3,000 new jobs at SRS: the website linnks do not work. That is so, so very frustrating. WRDW’s website is much more user-friendly than yours, although your new story was much better than theirs.
