Columbia County Board Of Education Rezoning Meeting
Growth in Columbia County...and that means the number of students attending county school will also grow. With a new middle school being built to keep up with the county, more rezoning is necessary. Barclay Bishop has more in the WJBF-TV News Channel 6 School Report.
Gas Card Theft Suspect Arrested
Richmond County investigators have arrested a man who got his hands on a federal gas card. Levi Kitchens is accused of raking up thousands of dollars in charges throughout Richmond County.
Aiken Woman Dies From Lightning Strike
According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, 56-year-old Brenda F. Baker, of Aiken, was pronounced dead at 6:14 a.m. on Friday, January 11. Ms. Baker was the apparent victim of a lightning strike.
Murder Retrial Concludes With Guilty Verdict
A murder case in Aiken County is wrapped up. The Augusta Chronicle is reporting that Cornell Tyler has been sentenced to 30 years for murder, 20 for Assault and Battery With Intent To Kill, and 5 years for Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Crime.
North Augusta Family Arrested for Drugs and Thefts
According to Lt. Michael Frank, the Aiken County Sheriff's Office has arrested a North Augusta family on drug charges and the theft of copper tubing from a former textile mill, in Graniteville, South Carolina.

Pitbulls Seized In Augusta
The WJBF-TV News Channel 6 Crime Tracker Renita Crawford reports on possible charges against the owner of more than a dozen pit bulls. Deputies say Marcus Taylor owned the dogs, and could be charged with animal cruelty. Animal Control workers found these dogs in pretty bad shape...The dogs were discovered after a concerned citizen called police about 2 pit bulls fighting. At least 5 had to be put down because of malnourishment.
Could “Flash” Be Panned?
It could be another shake up at the Augusta Civic Center complex. Tuesday, the Coliseum Authority sent its longtime attorney and accountant packing. It was the same day local state lawmakers voted for a review of the authority's policies and finances. Some more aftershocks in the turmoil are now swirling at the complex. WJBF-TV News Channel 6's George Eskola has more.
Gary Hilton Is A Suspect In Florida Woman’s Murder
Gary Michael Hilton is Also now a suspect in a Florida woman's murder. The Leon County Sheriff's Office says Hilton is a "prime suspect" in the death of Cheryl Hodges Dunlap.

A startling new videotape could help investigators in the case against the drifter charged with kidnapping and murdering young Georgia hiker, Meredith Emerson. Chris Cuomo has the very latest.

According to The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), LLC has been selected as the management and operating contractor for DOE's Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, South Carolina.

Newspaper Carrier Murder Suspect’s Retrial Continues
According to our new partner, AikenStandard.com, Cornell Tyler, 25, of Springfield, whose accused of the August 2005 murder of Debra Dorch, as she was delivering newspapers, tried Monday to convince the jury in his retrial that he was not responsible for the shots fired at Dorch, and newspaper assistant Joe Brewer.
SC Firefighters Support Fire Sprinklers Bill
State senators Wednesday heard from firefighters and fire safety experts. The question is whether to require business owners to put in sprinklers...or just offer tax incentives to encourage them to. WJBF-TV News Channel 6's Capitol reporter Robert Kittle tells us...firefighters want sprinklers in more than just commercial buildings.
Augusta Residents Fight For Neighborhood Revitalization Money
Some Augusta residents are fighting to get money to revitalize their neighborhood. The city has a $150,000 budget for neighborhood restoration. Now, the Harrisburg West End neighborhood is asking city and state leaders for a piece of the pie. They voiced their concerns at a meeting on Wednesday. WJBF-TV News Channel 6's Barclay Bishop was at the meeting and has more.
Bethlehem Neighborhood Meeting
City leaders say other neighborhoods need of a facelift like the Laney Walker and Bethlehem areas. The project is still in the planning stages, but over the next 6 months, consultants will prepare a blue print for redevelopment.

Governor Perdue Visits Augusta
Top political leaders in Georgia are ready for another round of lawmaking...The Georgia General Assembly goes back in business next week, and that brought some of the state's top elected officials to Augusta to talk about their plans and goals for the state. State leaders offered a preview of the upcoming legislative session. WJBF-TV News Channel 6's George Eskola has more.
City Leaders Make Accomodations For Gilbert Manor Residents
A community is coming together to help families moving from a public housing project. State and local leaders met with the Augusta Housing Authority Wednesday to discuss transportation, housing, and school concerns. Residents have to move to make room for the expansion of MCG. WJBF-TV News Channel 6's Renita Crawford has more on Wednesday's meeting.
Burke County Animal Issues
Burke County Commissioners have a plan to help with stray animals in the county. Folks living there say with no animal control center stray animals are causing concerns. The plan isn't what folks expected. Tuesday night, commissioners met to discuss the animal control issue and decided to set aside 10,000 dollars for animal concerns, but not for an animal control center. WJBF-TV News Channel 6's Fraendy Clervaud has more.

With the New Hampshire primaries decided, it's all eyes on South Carolina. Candidates will focus strategies on the Palmetto State...hoping to draw voters. It wasn't just the election results that were closely watched by candidates, it was who went to vote. Tough Times At Tubman Middle School

Union County authorities say the man and woman charged in the stabbing death of 16-year old Marisha Jeter are Jeter's ex boyfriend and his current wife. 20-year old Pernell Thompson and his wife, Yolanda Thompson, are charged in the killing.
Lexington Sex Offenders Ban
An ordinance that would effectively ban sex offenders from living in the town of Lexington has been approved by the town council. The ordinance would prevent sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of schools, churches, parks, playgrounds, and other places where children gather.
Murdered Hiker’s Family Speaks
Tuesday afternoon, in Athens, Georgia, a close friend of the family of Meredith Emerson made a statement to the media on behalf of the family. The family has not spoken publicly, since Gary Michael Hilton led investigators to Emerson's body. Rachel Kim has the story.
New Jobs Coming To Georgia
A brand new, one billion dollar plant, is expected to create more than 2,500 jobs in the Peach State. The auto company, Kia, is building an automobile factory in the town of Lagrange...that's north of Columbus.
Georgia House Speaker Proposes To Erase Property Taxes
Richardson's 37-page bill would eliminate the school portion of property taxes, and replace the lost revenue with a four percent state sales tax on groceries, lottery tickets, and other exempt services.
