Whether you’re stocking your kitchen shelves, or trying your luck at the lottery, we waste a lot of money each week. And, there are six habits that can really drain your wallet. WJBF News Channel 6’s Brad Means has more in our special report.
Augusta, GA—Our first stop takes us to the canned food aisle, where there are some solid savings to be had. And, there’s a wide range of the amount of change you can keep in your pocket, all you have to do is choose the store brand over the name brand.
Fruit cocktail was 15 cents cheaper, and canned tomatoes were nearly 70 cents less. Betcha can hardly taste the difference…
Speaking of taste…your desire for a delicious lunch could cost you, but not if you stock up at the store, instead of a fast food joint.
We figured the drive-thru meal will set you back about $6.00. Compare that to bread, turkey, chips, and a drink…enough food for 10 days, for just 99 cents a day.
Brad Means, reporting: “Can you believe it? Enough food to feed you lunch for nearly 2 weeks, less than a dollar a day, and you don’t even need a shopping cart.“
Another popular way to part with your money…lottery tickets. A dollar a pop may not sound like much, but it sure does add up. Even if you limit yourself to 1 per week, that’s still $52 a year. Eliminate your lotto fix and you’ve just paid for a lot of lunches.
What about going to the movies? You may want to make a move to the movie rental machine, first. You can grab a flick for a buck here. Compare that to the theatre: $9 a ticket, grab some snacks, and you could be out $30. Stick with the rental and stay in for about $5.
Don’t forget this machine. A real vending villain that can drain you, one drink at a time. One soft drink a day, $1.25 each, and by the end of the year you’ve blown $300.
But, a few habits can blow your budget like the habit that makes you blow smoke. These things are expensive. A pack of cigarettes a day, at $4.00 per pack, that’s $28 a week, or a whopping $1,456 a year.
A lot of money, and just like all 6 of these expenditures, a lot of reasons to think before you spend.
Back to those soft drinks…if you really can’t live without them, you can add a 12 pack to your shopping cart along with all your other money-saving items. You’ll save a ton versus hitting that vending machine every day.
