WASHINGTON (AP) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says the United States and China are committed to building a more stable and balanced global economy.

Geithner said in prepared remarks Tuesday that the two countries were determined to lay a foundation for more balanced growth once an economic recovery is firmly in place. The United States is pushing China to stop relying so much on exports to the United States for growth.

Geithner’s comments came as he and top Chinese economic officials began a second day of high-level talks that were scheduled to conclude with a work plan to cover the next several years.
