Washington, D.C.—Monday night, President Barack Obama made reference to JV Martin Junior High School, in Dillon County, SC, during his first primetime address to America.

President Barack Obama: “When a train runs by, the whole building shakes and the teacher has to stop teaching for a while. Why wouldn’t we want to build state of the art schools that will enhance the economy and, by the way, create jobs?”

President Obama was referring to a 2007 trip he made to the school, which is considered part of South Carolina’s Corridor of Shame.

We will have more on the President’s shout-out in our evening newscasts, on reaction to the President’s shout-out, and local efforts to build new schools in Dillon County. A property tax referendum passed last year and some work is already underway.
