RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Officials say a cluster of strong thunderstorms in North Carolina produced tornadoes that killed two people, and authorities are searching for a missing child. State police spokeswoman Patty McQuillan says a woman was found dead in the wreckage of her home early Saturday in the community of Kenly, which is about 35 miles southeast of Raleigh. Authorities say the woman’s son is missing.
In neighboring Johnston County, police say a child also was killed. McQuillan did not immediately release the names or ages of those killed.
National Weather Service officials say the storm produced severe weather for about 90 minutes across central North Carolina. Officials say homes have been damaged and the father of the missing child has been taken to a hospital with injuries.
