Creative Traffic Barrel Street Art Gains NC College Student Trouble, Fame

A North Carolina college student got in trouble, but got famous for his street art.

Raleigh, NC—A North Carolina college student got in trouble, but got famous for his street art.

Joseph Carnevale chopped up three stolen orange and white traffic barrels from a construction site to create a massive sculpture of a roadside monster that’s on the side of the highway thumbing a ride.

Carnevale says it’s art, but police saw it as vandalism and arrested him. They also dismantled the monster.

But…thanks to a strong showing of support on the internet, he’s received a ton of publicity. The construction company that owns the barrels even wants him to recreate the monster at their headquarters.

Police say they will not drop the charges.
