Black Clergy Lead Rally Against Gay Marriage In Nation’s Capital

Black clergy have led a rally against gay marriage in the nation’s capital. Before becoming law, the legislation requires a final council vote next week and then must be reviewed by Congress, which has final say over the city’s laws.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Black clergy have led a rally against gay marriage in the nation’s capital.

The Washington, D.C., city council voted unanimously this month to recognize same-sex marriages performed in states where they’re legal. Before becoming law, the legislation requires a final council vote next week and then must be reviewed by Congress, which has final say over the city’s laws.

But local clergy told about 200 supporters that God created marriage as the union of a man and a woman, and governments have no right to change it.

The ministers also insisted that gay marriage is not a civil right, and led the mostly black crowd in singing “We Shall Overcome” to suggest that their religious view might prevail.

City councilman and former Mayor Marion Berry, who missed the first council vote, led about 200 protesters in chanting, “No to same-sex marriage in D.C.!“

o.k, this is why church and state are separate. if we are to base human/civil rights by church doctrine, which doctrine are we to use? christianity? scientology? islamic? hinduism? buddhism? ####, the church of satan? there are more than just christians in this country and civil rights should protect all despite religion, sex, and so on. i’m so tired of these hypocrites using bibles as their launch pad for their own ridiculous prejudices. the bible also speaks against lying so why aren’t they in d.c. passionately demanding laws be set in place for ppl who lie (if that’s the case bush should be given the electric chair twice!)? why aren’t adulterer’s being bought up on charges for crimes against the word of god? because these fools aren’t as interested in the word of god as they are imposing their OWN WILL on the lives of others. so cut the ‘god’s word’ crap, give people their rights, and go find a real cause to fight.

This is why ‘the church’, black and otherwise, is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

No one wants the same organization that justified slavery, resisted womans rights and inter-racial marriage, to suddenly jump up with the feeble argument that THIS TIME they’re right.

No.  They’re still as wrong as ever.  And the clearest example is their putting a disgraced Crack-head to lead the charge.  This would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad and pathetic.

If Marion “the B*tch set me up” Barry is their secret weapon, then we can all sit back and sip Mimosas.

First, if you don’t believe in gay marriage, then fine, don’t marry a gay person; don’t determine what it’s right for others to do or who they shold love in their personal life. Second, I think it’s ridiculous for those who claim to be a righteous moral group to have a crackhead leading their charge.
