Augusta, GA—- For many seniors at the Sand Hill Community Center, election night was a dream come true.
Reverend Walter Crockett, 82 years old: “I couldn’t see much because my eyes were filled with tears, tears of joy.“
Carol Jones, 67 years old: “When I heard that he was declared President I said I have a dream.“
Julia Robernson, 72 years old: “I was just amazed. I was in awe. I was so happy elated that we’ve come to this point.“
As they watched the victory speech they remembered years of pain.
Reverend Walter Crockett:“I believe that this is an embrace of race relations and that we can love each other and to respect each other.“
Carol Jones: “I went to segregated schools. I had to go to the separate water fountains for colored only and was involved in pickett lines for equal rights.“
Julia Robernson: “I’ve always been a big believer in Miracles happening and last night was nothing less than a Miracle.“
Some say president elect Obama’s victory is the realization of Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of equality.
Bill McGraw, 60 Years Old: “And we must live in harmony regardless of our skin color and its my hope and my prayer that this will be a healing cleansing a smoothing thing to our nation and to the world.“
Julia Robernson: “Keep his hands in Gods hands and carry on Dr. Martin Luther King dream because he picked up where he left off at.“
Reverend Crockett: “My prayers will always be with him that God will guide him and protect him and his family that he would do a great job for America.“
Seniors at this center are calling Obama a trailblazer and say they are glad that they were alive to see this moment during their lifetime. Obama will be inaugurated as our 44th President January 20th.
