In a WJBF News Channel 6 Vote 08 report, a Richmond County voter is disappointed with her voting her experience. She claims something went wrong with her electronic ballot, but election workers disagree. Count on Fraendy Clervaud for the story.
Augusta, GA—Like many Americans, Election Day is the time to exercise your right and select the next Commander-in-Chief, but for Juanita Ellis, her vote won’t be counted for the candidate she wanted.
Juanita Ellis, voter: “And it’s a hurting thing, it really hurt me.“
Ms. Ellis tells us something went wrong while she was voting at the Blythe Community Center.
Juanita Ellis: “I pressed beside Obama, and when I looked, the X was beside McCain, and I’m saying to myself, ‘what’s going on here?‘ So, I pressed Obama again and it still remained McCain.“
Ms. Ellis says she continued to fill out the rest of her ballot and when it ended up at the summary page, her candidate still was not highlighted. She submitted her ballot and then called a poll worker, but it was to late. We talked to Richmond County Elections Director, Lynn Bailey, about the situation.
Lynn Bailey, Executive Director, Richmond County Board of Elections: “The time to call a poll worker’ attention to a particular perceived problem is before they hit the ‘Cast Ballot’ button.“
Bailey says, at the time that Ellis cast her ballot, there were no problems reported.
