It’s becoming known as the fighting Fifth District.
Four years ago Commissioner Calvin Holland won in a whisker over the Reverend Bobby Hankerson.
The difference was just 11 votes.
This time William “Bill” Lockett and Hankerson faced off, and with an endorsement from current Commissioner Calvin Holland, Lockett prevailed in the District Five Commission race, capturing 51 percent of the vote.
Lockett says he doesn’t plan to stray far from the way Commissioner Holland represented the district.
“I think one thing District Five needs is to continue some of those policies and procedures Commissioner Holland has done, I think we need to get rid of the blighted houses and boarded up houses I think we need to hold absentee landlords accountable I think we should have better collaboration between law enforcement and the community,” said Lockett.
Also winning in the Fifth District Patsy Scott who took the School Board seat that was held by her late husband.
