(Lincoln County, Georgia) - Lincoln County, like other communities, is having its own budget problems.
Commissioners voted earlier this month to revise the budget. Nearly every department had to cut money for supplies and equipment. The cuts amount to more than $200,000.
In addition to those cuts, part-time employees will be limited to 25 hours a week. Also, some full-time workers will be furloughed one day a month.
It’s just a lot of smoke and we didn’t see a fire. I’m just of the personal opinion they should have given sometime before they started all these axe cuttings.”
Former Lincoln County Board of Education chairman Marcene Powell keeps a watchful eye on what’s happening in the county. She says the board cut too soon, and their cuts are unfairly targeted at the people who make the least amount of money.
They can’t go find another job they can’t get unemployment,” Powell said.
Due to budget cuts, the county’s only pool won’t open. A drain cover that cost more than $3,000 is needed, but the county can’t afford it. And the new gym, built this year, won’t open.
