Augusta, GA—Augusta Commissioners get out of town to talk, and city taxpayers are footing the bill.
Last year, city leaders raised a few eyebrows when they held their annual retreat at USC-Aiken.
This weekend city leaders are again leaving home, but at least are meeting in the Peach State.
The Commission and Mayor are holding their two day meeting in Athens, at the University of Georgia.
The two day event will cost taxpayers $5,000, for meals lodging, and so forth.
When city leaders held their retreat at the Old Government House in Augusta the cost was in the $1,500 range, a more than $3,000 difference.
Commissioner Jerry Brigham says city leaders are making progress and felt Athens would be a good quiet place to talk.
