Augusta Leaders Recommend Going Out On Bonds For Augusta Priority S.P.L.O.S.T. Projects
They are the priority projects for the next phase of the special purpose local option sales tax, or S.P.L.O.S.T. Voters approved continuing the tax in june, but the city will not start collecting the money until fall of 2010. To avoid waiting, city leaders are recommending going out on bonds for some of the top priority projects.
Augusta, GA—They are the priority projects for the next phase of the special purpose local option sales tax, or S.P.L.O.S.T. Voters approved continuing the tax in june, but the city will not start collecting the money until fall of 2010.
To avoid waiting, city leaders are recommending going out on bonds for some of the top priority projects.
The list includes:
- the MCG-Gilbert Manor project, this will allow the city to pay back the money it gave to MCG to buy housing complex.
- $10 million for airport improvements.
- $6 million for a new Richmond County Sheriff’s Office adminstration bulding.
- $4 million to get the Marvin Griffin Road project underway.
- $1 million for work on the ramp at I-20 and Riverwatch Parkway.
The total package for bonds runs $34 million. As sales tax money starts being collected, the city will use to pay off the bonds.
