New Ellenton mayor fined for violating state ethics
The South Carolina state Ethics Commission has fined the mayor of New Ellenton for moving the city’s bank account to his wife’s employer. The commission found Mayor Vernon Dunbar guilty of using his office for personal gain, fined him $100 and issued a written warning.

Toddler killed in SC fire; parents hosptailized in Augusta
Columbia officials say a house fire has killed a 2-year-old girl and injured her parents. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire Friday morning that killed Brianna Mitchell. Her parents were rushed to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta.

Richmond County School Bus Driver Fired

Principal Swap: Bedden Announces Leadership Change For Butler High School
Dr. Dana Bedden announced that Gregory Thompson will replace Dr. Walter Reeves at Butler High School. Bedden announced that Reeves will be replacing the departing Veta New at Hephzibah High School October 1. Thompson comes to Butler from Josey High School, where he is assistant principal. A lawsuit by some rural school districts against the State of Georgia has been dropped
Butler High School Fight Video Released
Richmond County school officials, on Wednesday, released surveillance video of a big fight, last week, at Butler High School. Some initially thought it was gang-related, but late Wednesday, school officials said it was not. Nonetheless, they’re working to keep kids out of gangs, at the middle school level. They’re trying to get to kids young, before gangs get to them. WJBF-TV News Chanel 6’s Paige Tucker has the story.

SC Board of Education Bans School Bus Ads
It started as an idea for school districts to make money for their bus fleets in a time of rising fuel prices and dwindling budgets. Districts would be allowed to sell space on the inside of their school buses for printed ads to be placed above the windows. But the SC Board of Education voted Wednesday to ban ads on school buses. WJBF-TV News Channel 6’s Capitol Reporter Robert Kittle has more.
CSRA College Night Held
In a WJBF-TV News Channel 6 School Report: some high school students across the CSRA got a chance to meet with officials from dozens of colleges and universities. It was all part of CSRA College Night, at the James Brown Arena.

Finding Empty Graves
The city- owned Cedar Grove Cemetery dates back to 1820, but is still active. Because of it’s age, and incomplete records, workers often do not know which grave sites are empty. To find out, they stick a metal probe into the ground to see what’s beneath. But that’s not always the best process.

Historic Television Event Kicks Off With Local Cancer Awareness Program
You’ve probably seen the commercials for “Stand Up To Cancer.“ It’s a national push to raise money for all cancer research and find a cure once and for all.
