ATLANTA (AP) - A new study shows nearly 65 percent of students who graduated from a Georgia high school in 2008 enrolled in college.

The study released Thursday by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement is the first time the state has taken a comprehensive look at where Georgia students end up once they go to college. Of the students who enrolled in college, 77 percent of them are attending a public college or university in Georgia.

The study shows that nearly a quarter of the students are enrolled in a private Georgia college or have gone out-of-state for school. The most popular states include Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina.

The office of student achievement used data from the National Student Clearinghouse, a national nonprofit that tracks enrollment.
