Blackville, SC—Education and golf make for a good team in Blackville, South Carolina.

Tueday, we got a peek at a new public course that is owned by Blackville-Hilda Public Schools.

Four years ago, Blackville graduate Robert Collins donated the golf course to his alma mater.

Because the school is in the business of teaching young minds, a foundation will be created to run it.

The driving range was shown Saturday, and the rest of the course should be open this time next year.

South Carolina Superintendent of Schools Jim Rex took a look at the course on Tuesday.

Teresa Pope, Barnwell County School Superintendent: “We’ll have a First Tee Program for elementary and middle students and extend that to high school…and we’ll also have a golf team in the fall of 2010.“

Pope said she will be will be looking to the South Carolina Department of Education for future funding.
