CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson University trustees have approved an average increase of 5.7 percent in student room and board fees starting this fall.
At their meeting Friday, trustees also approved the school’s $750 million budget.
The school says the increase in room and board fees will raise nearly $2.4 million next year, and 90 percent of that money will be used for improvements like wireless Internet upgrades, bathroom renovations, new paint and carpet and upgrades to climate control systems and elevators.
University officials say they tried to hold down the fee increase by getting rid of lunch trays and postponing construction.
Last month, Clemson trustees approved a 4.5 percent increase for in-state tuition.
