Sardis, GA—Junior Spencer describes how he and friend saved another man’s life.
Junior Spencer, helped rescue neighbor: “Went inside to see if I could find anybody, ‘cause his car was parked next door.”
That man was his neighbor, Reese Reeves. Spencer says he and his family were leaving their home, early Friday morning, when they noticed smoke coming from the mobile home. That’s when Spencer rolled up his sleeves.
Junior Spencer: “Well, the house is on fire, doesn’t matter who it is. If I see a house on fire, I’m going to try to in and see if there’s anybody in there.”
Spencer says he threw rocks at the window trying to get in, but soon found out the front door was already unlocked. When he opened the door, he found Mr. Reeves on the floor and he and his friend pulled him from the burning home…a brave move, but Spencer says he’s no hero.
Junior Spencer: “Look here, I don’t want no credit.”
Spencer says he’s known this family for a while, now, and just knew it was his duty to make sure no one was in the house. Mr. Reeves was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.
