Waynesboro, GA—-Waynesboro city police Chief Karl Allen says there have been eight car break-ins in town in the month of July, alone. He says during each crime a gun or a GPS device was taken.
Karl Allen, Chief of Police, Waynesboro, GA: “Although we don’t see any anything developing because of this, but we do have a concern that weapons are taken each time.”
Fraendy Clervaud, reporting: “According to the police reports, most of the car break-ins are taking place in parking lots. And, that’s why authorities say if you have visible items like these, its best for you to tuck them away because when thieves see these, that’s when your car becomes a target.”
The reports show that guns were stolen from cars parked at area hotels and businesses. Chief Allen says evidence left behind does not point to a specific person or gang activity. Guns stolen include pistols, semi automatics, and a rifle. The chief says investigators are looking at all possible leads.
Karl Allen: “Well you never can tell because people who break in are up to no good and if there was a weapon in the car or truck when they break in there is a possibility of them using it more so.”
All in all there is about $1,500 worth of stolen weapons on the streets of Waynesboro.
