Augusta, GA—For nearly 3 months, Richmond County investigators passed out flyers, trying to find out who killed Daniel McGee…shot in Harrisburg, while riding his bike on December 9th, running an early morning errand at Kroger for his disabled uncle.

Lt. Scott Peebles, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office: “You know, all of the things that would indicate or lead you to believe that he was not looking for trouble in any way.”

Friday, our cameras were the only ones rolling when 16-year-old Brodrick Tavares Williams was brought in by Richmond County investigators. He and 18-year-old Tavaris Lanard Samuels are both charged with McGee’s murder.

Lt. Peebles: “They saw him leaving the Kroger, and so they saw which direction he went in, we believe, and followed him.”

Butch Palmer is an advocate to help keep the Harrisburg neighborhood safe, and lately raise awareness to find McGee’s killers.

Butch Palmer, lives in Harrisburg: “Just like Mr. Peebles said, our strongest weapon are the ears and eyes of the neighborhood, forming neighborhood watches, and coalitions with members of the community, and work closely with the police department.”

And based on Friday’s arrests, it could be paying off…

Palmer: “It certainly was a sense of relief, and I’m glad and I certainly hope that Mr. McGee’s immediate family finds a sense of closure from this.”

Samuels lead came from an armed robbery he was a suspect in, on Monday. Williams was picked up Friday, at Landmark Apartments. Both arrests were made from tips investigators received. We talked to McGee’s mom by phone, on Friday, who still seemed to be in shock. She’s happy, but of course it’s certainly not an easy day for her.

At this time, investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in the murder.
