Swainsboro Double Murder Suspect Arrested

Investigators with the Swainsboro Police Department are looking into a double murder. The killings happened Saturday along the 2-hundred block of Bell Street. This is about 80 miles away from Augusta. Count on our Fraendy Clervaud. He has the story.

Swainsboro, GA—-A man describes a horrifying scene he says he witnessed outside his neighbor’s home.

Damian Marron, Swainsboro, GA: “He came out with his gun fired off. Man he shot at them. They started running. He emptied out a whole clip. He reloaded, dude ran behind the house. After he came out he shot the lady like five times.”

24 year old Edison Ortiz is behind bars in Emanuel County after Swainsboro Investigators accuse him of shooting and killing his mother and father in law Saturday. These flowers mark the spot where Linda and Deryl Bruce’s bodies were found. Authorities say Ortiz shot them several times after an argument.

Detective Coleman Hall, Swainboro, GA: “It’s been an ongoing situation.”

Investigators say the three had a history of problems because the in-laws did not like their son-in-law Ortiz. Their daughter—-the alleged shooters wife—- was home at the time of the shootings.

Damian Marron: “I was scared. I was scared for his wife because I thought he was going to kill her. Also cause I know I heard a gunshot in the house when he first came out.”

Investigators tell us Ortiz did not physically hurt his wife.

Damian Marron: “His wife was nice. I talked to her about three days ago. I was walking my dog on the end of the road. She saw my dog she came out of the road she was a happy sweet lady.”

Authorities say they found the murder weapon at the scene of the crime and arrested Ortiz without any trouble. Investigators say Ortiz faces two counts of felony murder.
