SC Man Charged In Death Of Girlfriend’s Baby

An 18-year-old South Carolina man has been charged with homicide by child abuse after his girlfriend’s baby died. Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Armstrong says 1-year-old Xavier Lee Polston was taken off of life support around noon Thursday.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - An 18-year-old South Carolina man has been charged with homicide by child abuse after his girlfriend’s baby died.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Armstrong says 1-year-old Xavier Lee Polston was taken off of life support around noon Thursday.

Armstrong says deputies were called to the home Tuesday night for a child who was not breathing and found Timothy Leroy Massey kneeling near the baby.

Authorities say Massey struck Xavier with a belt and his hand and also dropped the baby from several feet.

Massy had been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, but that charge was upgraded after the baby died. The child’s mother has not been charged.

Bond has not been set for Massey.
