Augusta, GA—According to Lt. Scott Peebles, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a home invasion suspect.

Lt. Peebles says, Monday, shortly after 5:00 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home invasion at 523 Fairhope Street, in reference to a home invasion. Upon arrival, officers learned that while the 68-year-old homeowner was sleeping in his residence, two suspects kicked in his back door, tied him up, and robbed him at knife point. The suspects took cash and car keys from the victim before leaving him bound in his bathtub. The suspects then took the victim’s Ford Explorer.

After several hours, a neighbor heard the victim screaming for help and went to his aid. Officers who responded to the scene located the victim’s vehicle behind a vacant apartment on Mack Court, a short distance from the incident location.

While officers were searching the area, they located 19-year-old Ahijah Murray and two other men in the area of the victim’s vehicle. Murray has since been arrested in connection with the case and is being held without bond at the Richmond County Jail. Murray has been charged with one count each of Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Burglary and Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle. The two men who were found walking with Murray have been released, but have not been ruled out as suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
