Augusta, GA—According to Lt. Scott Peebles, Tuesday morning, at about 8:44 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a deceased person call on the 1900 block of Kissingbower Road. Upon arrival, officers located the body of 56-year-old Henry Lee Smith deceased in the backyard of the residence.

Smith appears to have died from lacerations to his right wrist, which appeared to have been caused when Smith was breaking out the window of a small building located in the backyard of the residence.

In August of this year, Smith had broken into the same building, through the same window, and stole a van. Smith was apprehended in Atlanta, Georgia with the van.

Smith is known to the homeowners to be a drug user and alcoholic, who is homeless, but frequents the area.

According to Chief Richmond County Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen, Smith was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. Smith’s body is scheduled for autopsy in Newberry, South Carolina on Wednesday. Smith had injuries to his wrist possibly from broken glass.
