A man has been arrested in Sylvania, Georgia in connection to a Tuesday night deadly hit and run in Richmond County. The man is identified as 62-year-old Willie David Bragg, Jr.

Hephzibah Man Arrested In Fatal Hit-And-Run

HEPHZIBAH, Ga. (AP) - A 62-year-old man has been arrested on charges he was drunk when he plowed his pickup truck into two sisters walking along a road near Hephzibah, killing one.

Richmond County sheriff’s Cpl. Danny Whitehead says officers arrested Willie David Bragg Jr. on Wednesday, a day after police say he hit the women. Whitehead says Bragg was charged with two counts of felony hit-and-run, one count of first degree homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence.

Whitehead said Bragg has a history of drunken driving arrests, including one last year.

Twenty-five-year-old Shannon Nicole Mathis was killed in the accident, and her sister, Diane Meyer, was hospitalized with a fractured leg.

Mathis, a mother of three, was in town visiting from Mississippi.

Augusta, GA—A Hephzibah, Georgia man has been arrested in Sylvania, Georgia in connection to a Tuesday night deadly hit and run in Richmond County.

The man is identified as 62-year-old Willie David Bragg, Jr.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office says the hit and run left 25-year-old Shannon Mathis dead. The Coroner’s Office says Mathis was walking with her sister, Tuesday night, on Bennock Mill Road, when they were hit.

Authorities say both women were taken to MCG, where Mathis later died.

Bragg was arrested Wednesday, and he’ll face charges of Vehicular Homicide and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
