FL Seat Belt Stop Yields Wanted Richmond County Felon, Drugs
According to a release from the Palm Bay (Florida) Police Department, a Richmond County fugitive has been arrested during a seatbelt checkpoint stop.
Palm Bay, FL—According to a release from the Palm Bay (Florida) Police Department, a Richmond County fugitive has been arrested during a seatbelt checkpoint stop.
The release is below:
“A traffic stop for a seat belt violation ended with the arrest of a fleeing felon who was wanted from Richmond County, Georgia on charges related to kidnapping and carjacking. Travis Lee Brown (06-03-1987) is now facing additional charges of possession of cocaine, possession of controlled substance and resisting arrest following the traffic stop late Tuesday night.
At approximately 10:15 PM Tuesday, Patrol Officer Jason McCoy initiated a traffic stop in the area of 3611 Jupiter Blvd. SE after seeing the driver and passenger inside a blue 4-door Saturn not wearing their seat belts. As Officer McCoy approached the stopped vehicle, the passenger, later identified as Travis Brown, began to flee on foot refusing all orders by the officer to stop and surrender. As the suspect became more combative, Officer McCoy deployed his taser which subsequently subdued the suspect who was then taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed Brown was in possession of approximately 8 grams of cocaine, and 13 pills of 30mg scheduled 2 Oxycocodone. Brown was taken to the Palm Bay Police Department for processing at which time he became ‘irate’ about not making a phone call. While in the holding cell, Brown began to do a hand stand and according to Officer McCoy, ‘acted like he passed out.‘ Brown was restrained by his hands and feet and placed in a padded helmet in order to prevent injury. After being medically examined at a local hospital and cleared by doctors, Brown was turned over to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office for transport to the jail. Brown is being held on $4,500 bond for the local charges and ordered to be held for authorities from Richmond County, Georgia.“
