Hephzibah, GA—- George Arguiler spent the day having a security system installed at his new home. He’s lived here for a few months and says the neighborhood is great but wanted the system for safety measures.

George Arguiler, Hephzibah, GA: “I’t’s been good very quiet this area right here has been very peaceful.“

He lives in the Cypress Point subdivision in Hephzibah and according to Richmond County investigators, homes in the area have been hit by a copper thief.

George Arguiler, Hephzibah, GA: “My parents they had it pretty hard in there neighborhood. A lot of people stealing in there neighborhood and we thought we were getting away from that side of town but it’s coming everywhere.“

Investigators say someone has stolen copper from more than 15 homes in the past few weeks. The target: different types of air conditioning units. Most of them are outside. Investigators say the bandit stole from homes that are for sale or that are new. Another area that has been targeted has been the Heathers Glenn subdivision. That’s less than a mile away from cypress point. George says he’s considered caging his ac unit. But for now he hopes the security system will keep him from being targeted. Last month, several local law enforcement agencies formed the CSRA Copper Metal Task Force, to deal with these growing thefts.  The task force is scheduled to meet again in November.
