(Columbia County) - In jail, and through a video hookup with a judge, Becky Sears and her son were told of the charges against them, Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
Attorney Victor Hawk is representing Becky Sears. He met with her husband, Monday, to talk about the case against her.
Renita Crawford, reporting: “Did she kill Kay Parsons?“
Victor Hawk, Becky Sears’ attorney: “I am not going to comment, at all, about the facts and circumstances of the case. I’m real confident, if what the police say is true, they’ll be able to prove it. I’m also real confident, if she’s innocent, we’ll be able to prove it.”
Hawk says Sears will plead not guilty to the charges.
Hawk: “Its way, way too early to assume that what the police say is true.”
Another potential problem for Sears; Richmond County Sheriff’s Office detectives say she lied about being shot, and planted evidence to throw off law enforcement during its investigation. Sears claimed she was shot while leaving work at Healing Hands Physical Therapy. The shooting happened a day after Parsons’ murder.
Hawk: “If Richmond County can prove the case the way they say it occurred, then they have some merit, but if they can’t, I’m going to prove otherwise.”
Hawk says, despite evidence authorities may have in the case, he will work to Sears’ innocence.
Hawk: “I like to help people that are in need of defending, and it doesn’t matter if its tough or easy, the issue is whether the person is innocent, and whether you can prove it.”
