Grovetown, GA—With no suspects and very few leads, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking to the public for help.

All day and well into the night, Columbia County investigators stopped car after car, trying to look for leads after Laverne Parsons was viciously attacked in her home, early Wednesday morning.

Captain Steve Morris, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office: “From what we can tell, right now, the homeowner dropped her son off at school, possibly ran an errand or two, came home shortly before 9:00 and we believe she interrupted a burglary in progress.”

Captain Steve Morris tells us it’s likely the same attacker had burglarized the home next to Parsons’, shortly before.

Capt. Morris: “We don’t know whether she was being watched, and then surprised him when she returned home early, we just don’t know. We need some help.”

Investigators sent out an alert to the surrounding area, telling people to keep an eye out. Meanwhile, Columbia County’s Crime Scene Unit set up shop outside of Parsons’ home…investigating the inside, looking for any evidence.  All of this, in a neighborhood that’s seen very little crime, neighbors say the most they’ve ever seen is someone getting a speeding ticket.

“I’m absolutely shocked since I can see her house from my house,” says one neighbor, “Most of the people keep a watch out for everybody, and you know the strange cars in the neighborhood, if there are any.”

While investigators continue to do their job, they’re relying heavily on those living in Orchard Hill to help catch the attacker, who could be anywhere.

Parsons’ neighbor says, “This is my first time of ever hearing about a burglary. I’m shocked…I’m actually scared.”

Capt. Morris says there are a few people who think they may have seen something, this morning.

But again, they need any and all information about something you may have seen.

At last check, Parsons was still in critical condition at MCG.
