Grovetown, GA—Just 3 days after Kay Parsons was brutally attacked in her Grovetown home, dying the following day, a crime scene unit clean up crew spent the day at Parsons’ home. This, just shortly after 2 suspects were arrested in the case. Parsons’ neighbor and co-worker, 41-year-old Rebecca Bowers Sears and her son, 19-year-old Christopher Sean Bowers, are both being charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder. Bowers is being charged with Murder.

Captain Steve Morris, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office: “We follow the evidence, and we want to know the who, what, when, where, and why. We’re confident, as it stands today, that we have the answers to those questions.”

Sears reported her home was burglarized around the same time as Parsons’, but after these arrests, police are taking a second look.

Barclay Bishop, reporting:  “Do you really think Sears home was burglarized that day?”

Capt. Morris:  “We can’t comment on that.”

Sears had also claimed someone shot at her, grazing her legs, while she was leaving work at Healing Hands Physical Therapy, Thursday night. Now that she is accused of Parsons’ murder, their neighbors are in shock.

Kenneth Teague, neighbor:  “It’s a horrible situation, and I can’t imagine another human being doing something like that. And certainly, that is not something that would be indicative of a robbery, to go to that extreme, and take that kind of time to do that to another human being.”

Debbie Hopkins, neighbor: “There are people in this community who are having this conversation in grocery stores, and at preschools, and in school cafeterias. Thousands of people care, and if there’s anything we can do, we would like to do it.”

Capt. Morris: “They’re all difficult, but this one was certainly different, and one of the saddest that we’ve ever investigated.”

Sources tell us that Sears hung out in the waiting room while Parsons was being treated in the MCG Trauma Unit. While the investigation is ongoing, officials say it is likely Sears will also be charged with Murder. Investigators would not comment on what may have been the motive.

A bond hearing is set for Bowers and Sears on Monday.

Sears lived at the home next door to Parsons’ home, and Bowers lived on the 4000 block of Briarwood Drive, in Martinez, Georgia.
