Martinez, GA—Columbia County investigators tell us that around Sunday, at 7:30 p.m., Lawanda Concettes Tripp, 39, who was the babysitter, ran across the street screaming for help.
According to the incident report, a neighbor began CPR on the unresponsive baby, but she later died at MCG. At the time, there was nothing to convict Tripp, but after investigators interviewed the neighbor, and the autopsy results were revealed, it was clear Tripp would be charged with murder.
Captain Steve Morris, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office: “Apparently Miss Tripp had been used multiple times prior to this. From what we understand, they worked together, at least to some degree, at Fort Gordon. Although Tripp is a civilian employee, and we understand that the victim’s mother is a military personnel, but they knew one another in the past, it wasn’t a stranger on stranger.”
Captain Morris would not go into detail about how the baby was killed, other than blunt force trauma to the head.
