Aiken County Church Secretary Arrested In Theft

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a former church secretary, who for more than two years used church credit cards to buy clothes, jewelry and vacations totaling more than $75,000. Michelle S. Mitchum, 41, of the 18000 block of Solomon Platt Avenue, Blackville, South Carolina, is charged with Grand Larceny - More than $5000.

Aiken, SC., October 28 – The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a former church secretary, who for more than two years used church credit cards to buy clothes, jewelry and vacations totaling more than $75,000.

Michelle S. Mitchum, 41, of the 18000 block of Solomon Platt Avenue, Blackville, South Carolina, is charged with Grand Larceny - More than $5000.

Mitchum surrendered Monday to investigators at ACSO.

From January 2006 until September 2008, the subject, who was employed at Grace Covenant Church of God, in New Ellenton, established two credit card accounts in the church’s name. These accounts were used to pay household bills, purchase clothing, jewelry and vacations.

The subject is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.
