Augusta, GA—Anthony Bailey has been delivering mail to Augusta neighborhoods for 4 years. He’s one of the many who would be affected if the U.S. Postal Service eliminated a day of delivery.
Anthony Bailey, U.S. Postal Carrier: “If they cut us back, it depends on if we get the same amount of pay. One more day off wouldn’t be bad.“
But, it wouldn’t be every week…and which day it would be is still up in the air.
Rene Suggs, U.S. Postal Service Customer Relations Coordinator: “It would be when the volume is at its lowest, and hopefully be as infrequent as it can. Possibly just during the summer months, once or twice week.“
Pat Claiborne says he could deal with 5 days.
Pat Claiborne, Augusta, GA: “I don’t think it would hurt us, I don’t think it would hurt people for personal mail. Most businesses are closed on weekends.“
But, you won’t be totally out of luck if a delivery day is cut. The Post Office, itself, would still be open, but, for now, carriers, like Bailey, say they’ll just have to wait and see.
Bailey: “I’m just going to wait, stand by, and hope for the best.“
The most likely day to nix deliveries would be Tuesday or Wednesday.
