Augusta, GA—The U.S. Treasury Department has loaned GM $19.4 billion and would provide $30 billion in additional financing to keep the new GM operating under bankruptcy protection.

Susan Swanson, Augusta: “American cars should have been changed years ago to keep up with Japan and all the innovations of smaller cars, but they chose not to.“

Master Pontiac Buick GMC, on Washington Road has been in business for more than 70 years and plans on being around despite news that GM is filing for bankruptcy protection.

In this statement released to WJBF News Channel 6, the dealership says:

“The recent developments in the bankruptcy filing by General Motors will not interrupt Master Pontiac Buick GMC’s operation. At Master, it always has been, and will continue to be, ‘business as usual.‘

Under bankruptcy protection the U.S. taxpayers would loan GM $30 billion on top of the $20 billion that’s already been loaned to the company.

Swanson: ‘It really started with the unions wanting so much and not being willing to work with the companies and that usually is the problem. Unions get so greedy they take down companies.“

Jack Love, Augusta: it really surprises me and Idon’t know how it’s going to affect the other markets other than GM itself, but I’m sure the foreign car industry will stay the same.“

In the meantime, Master Pontiac Buick GMC says it regrets the filing, but customers will get continuued sales and service. It says warranties will be protected and parts will be available and vehicles will continue to be serviced.

It says it views this current situation for what it is, a necessary means for General Motors to restructure and to come back stronger than ever as a vital operating company.
