Augusta, GA—-In just a few days one of Boral Brick’s manufacturing plants will reopen, giving about 35 people a chance to get back to work. The Augusta factory closed, this past December. But now that sales are picking back up, it’s time to resume shipping out bricks.

Fraendy Clervaud, reporting: “It’s products like this that are called the Monticello Blend, that’s in high demand, and it’s causing Boral Bricks to reopen factory number #5.”

Paul Zimmerman is the Vice President of Operations, at Boral Bricks. He says, when production resumes, plant # 5 will manufacture more than 300,000 bricks a day, but he says, right now there’s no room for new hires.

Paul Zimmerman: “All of our impacted employees were on layoffs, and they have recall rights. We sent them letters.”

Zimmerman says some past employees have already contacted the company and are excited to get back to work.

Paul Zimmerman: “We have clay preparation and we do forming. We actually form the brick. We have a firing process that takes the brick from room temperature to 2,000 degrees and back down and then the packaging process.”

And, although sales are up in Augusta, it’s a different story in other parts of the USA.

John Martin, RW Allen & Associates: “While we are down, we are not as depressed as other markets, so Augusta just seems to stay steady versus a lot of markets that have big raises, but then they also have huge falls.“

If you were laid off in December from Boral Bricks, you should be getting a letter from the company about coming back to work in May.
