Aiken, SC—As the economy goes down…the number of animals needing a home…goes up. Shelters all across the area are reporting more people dropping off their pets since the economy went south. The shelters are full…so they need your help. In Aiken County, they’ve set up a volunteer program. They just need folks to help walk the dogs…get them out of the kennels, and show them some love.

Todd Glover, Aiken County Assistant County Administrator: “Right now, about 9 out of every 10 animals that come into our door are euthanized. And, we really want to lower that number, and so we feel like this volunteer program is going to be the difference in some of these animals being adopted, or not adopted at all.“

If you’ve got a little free time…want to take a dog for a walk or…even better…want to give one a good home call the Aiken County Animal Shelter at (803) 643-1913.
