Saluda County Sheriff’s Office says it is waiting on Humane Society to draw up warrant so horses can be seized.
(Saluda County, SC) - In October, it appeared some horses in Saluda County were showing signs of neglect. Their ribs were showing, a local vet said their muscles were wasting and they were looking for food that wasn’t there.
That was more than three weeks ago and the horses are still there. Monday one was locked up near bales of hay and the Sheriff’s Office says the others had been moved to a nearby pasture.
But so far no one has been able to intervene to help the horses because of paperwork.
The Chief Deputy with the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office says he is still waiting on the Humane Society in Columbia to help them with the paperwork to take out a warrant so the horses can be seized. He says the Humane Society is short-staffed.
Meantime, those who have offered to take the horses in and nurse them back to health are being put on hold until paperwork is done.
