An incident has landed a local family on a national television show. A North Augusta boy, 3-year-old Evan Waldhauer, swallowed a toy race car, and lived to tell about it. It’s really an incredible story…so incredible, in fact, that TLC is going to feature the North Augusta family this weekend, on the network’s newest show, called, fittingly…“Your Kid Ate What?“ WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has the story.

North Augusta, SC—The stickers are all gone now. It’s a little race car that’s making the little boy a TV star.
Karl Waldhauer, father: “TLC apparently contacted the Medical College of Georgia that they were going to do a show about kids that eat odd things.“
Andm 3-year-old Evan Waldhauer was their nominee.
Tara Waldhauer, mother: “Evan was playing with his new little race car he got, and he ran up to me and was holding his throat and he said, ‘um, Mommy, mommy, my race car, get it out!‘“
Evan had swallowed his toy race car.
Evan Waldhauer, swallowed toy race car: “Cuz, I thought it was my snack.“
Barclay Bishop, reporting: “Did it taste good?“
Evan: “No!“
The x-ray shows exactly where the car went…straight to his stomach.
Evan: “It’s out of my tummy now.“
But, it did take a few hospital visits before it passed.
Karl Waldhauer: “Evan’s main concern was getting his car back. We just thought it was pretty much a funny story within the family.“
But, one that will now be shared with millions. In May, TLC, Interviewed the North Augusta family for a new series, called “Your Kid Ate What?“
Tara Waldhauer: “They took that information and hired someone to do the re-enactment but then our interviews are part of the show.
Mom and dad say Evan doesn’t quite realize all the hype this little race car has made, but they’ll make sure the story is never forgotten.
Karl Waldhauer: “I’m someone that’s going to run it into the ground with him, just to give him a hard time about it for a good while.“
So, whatever happened to that race car…? Mom and dad have it…as for Evan getting to play with it again…?
Karl Waldhauer: “No, no, he’s not allowed to play with this one. He’s been able to look at it, but he hasn’t had his hands on it since.“
You can catch the family’s story on TLC, this Sunday night at 9:00 p.m.
