Edgewater, CO—Aaron Siebers: “Can I help you?“

Kim Posey, reporting: “Are you Aaron?“

Aaron Siebers didn’t want to talk to us.

Posey: “We were just wanting to talk to you about what happened…about your stabbing.“

Siebers: “I’m not interested.“

But, he sure had a story for police. He described he was attacked by three Hispanic males. Edgewater Police officers were called to a Blockbuster when Siebers showed up to work with a stab wound on his leg and cuts to his face and stomach. He said he was attacked by three men dressed in black, in between the Target and King Soopers, across the parking lot.

Steve Davis, Edgewater Police Department: “We had five police departments, and a sheriff’s office with K-9 units, searching alleys and roof tops, going neighborhood by neighborhood, looking for assault suspects.“

Officers say the story started to fall apart. There was no evidence of an attack, and when investigators checked surveillance tape, they saw Siebers, but no attack. When confronted with that information, Siebers allegedly admitted that he stabbed himself, so he didn’t have to go to work.

Davis: “He told investigators that, earlier in the day, he was on his skateboard and he was wearing his company uniform and he fell down and ripped his pants and was afraid that if he did go into work, he would be reprimanded for that.“

Apparently unaware that other people just call in sick, Siebers’ alleged stunt landed him in a lot of trouble.

Davis: “These hoaxes cost a lot of people a lot of man hours and a lot of money to the taxpayers, and ultimately, charges were filed.“
