UNDATED—It’s parents versus Mattel…the toy maker wants to revamp Dora…and some parents aren’t buying it.
If you know anything about Dora you know she’s a bilingual doll that kids love.
Now Mattel wants to revamp Dora into a tween that lives in the “big city” and “has a new fashionable look.“
Some parents argue, Dora will be “Bratzed out”, “sexualized,“ like Barbie and the Bratz.
So parents are demanding answers for their concerns.
Sherry Robinson, ‘Whoa, Momma Blog’: “They they want a doll that doesn’t just..isn’t concerned about the physical beauty you know….some of the concerns folks have always had about Barbie.“
Gina Sirard, Mattel: “It’s not about the fashionista Dora, it’s about Dora being able to go incognito, so she can solve mysteries.“
Mattel and Nickelodeon are listening to concerns and say Dora will be the anti-barbie without any resemblance.
They say she’s sort of the modern day Nancy Drew, they just want the tween Dora to motivate new adventures at an older stage.
The doll will be unveiled this fall.
