Los Angeles, CA—Chris Brown and Rihanna steamed up the stage at the 2007 MTV video music awards. Now, the beautiful singer from Barbados is said to have major bruises and swelling on her face.

According to TMZ.com, she has bite marks on her arms and fingers and suffered a bloody nose and lip. The website says Rihanna claims Brown hit her with his fists.

The couple had attended a pre-Grammy party, Saturday night, where they appeared happy. But later, driving through a ritzy Hancock Park neighborhood,  they apparently argued. Someone called 911.

When police arrived, they found Rihanna alone and injured. Brown later turned himself into police, leaving with celebrity attorney Mark Geragos, after being booked on suspicion of making a criminal threat.

The 19-year-old sang about love in his hit song, ‘With You,‘ but he is no stranger to its dark side. In a 2007 magazine article, he recalled how his stepfather used to hit his mother, and “... made me terrified all the time.“

Brown said he wanted his music to appeal to people’s better nature:

Chris Brown, R&B singer: “I’m trying to get all realms of music, but inspirational, to where people feel food and people don’t have to get in the mindset I’m about to knock somebody out ,or like I’m gonna pick up a gun.“

With Brown’s positive image now tarnished, Wrigley has suspended its ad featuring the young singer.

Carla Wohl, reporting: “As for Rihanna, she has postponed a concert scheduled in Malaysia, this week.“
