Los Angeles, CA—The service was held outdoors, behind the imposing Grand Mausoleum of Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The burial was described as a small, private service…filled with familiar faces: Elizabeth Taylor, The Reverend Al Sharpton, actor Macauley Culkin and girlfriend Mila Kunis, and the list went on.
As they waited the time was spent in small talk, renewing acquaintances and signing condolence books.
Finally the family arrived in a motorcade, driving past barricaded streets, then the casket carrying Michael Jackson was brought out…
These photos show some of the service, but the media was kept at a distance. So were Jackson’s fans. There were no huge crowds here, unlike the larger, public memorial service in July. But some just couldn’t stay away…
Meg Kusumoto, travelled from Japan: “The news has been so huge, the impact on the people in Japan is really big.“
John Smith, Michael Jackson fan: “Michael Jackson was the greatest entertainer of all time, there’s nobody’s going to come near what he’s done.“
Jackson’s interment comes a day after his death certificate was amended. The cause of death is now officially listed as Acute propofol intoxication, along with other sedatives. A homicide by means of intravenous injection by another.
Alex Stone, reporting: “That investigation, and the potential for criminal charges being filed in connection to his death, is one reason it’s taken nearly two months for Jackson to be buried.“
